building contractor with experienceMy name is Dave Silva. I am the founder of Silva Construction.

When I was a kid I worked with my dad on all kinds of construction projects: framing, concrete, plumbing, electrical, roofing, finish carpentry, masonry, and painting.

After a stint in the US Army I apprenticed with a construction company remodeling restaurants in the Redondo Beach Marina. I worked on the Blue Moon Saloon, the Princess Alexandria (the ship docked next to the Blue Moon Saloon), the Landing, the boat hoist, the docks and (years later) Moose McGillycuttys.

When Joe (the owner of the construction company) retired I got my California contractor license and started my own company. My garage in Manhattan Beach was the office for a number of years, and later, as the business grew, we moved to an office in Lawndale. When we outgrew that building we moved to bigger office in Harbor City, and from there to San Pedro. I’ve always stayed close to the South Bay, as it’s the area we do most of our work.

During this time of growth I have handled many positions in the company from training carpenters, estimating, sales, production management, financial management, quality control, policy maker and, finally, Executive Director.

I have been involved in all aspects of construction: repairs, remodels, additions and new construction (both residential and commercial).

My intention for this blog is to write about my experiences as a contractor, highlighting some of the problems and solutions I have run into during my 30+ years in the construction industry.

Have a question about construction and/or remodeling? Ask us! I’ll be happy to share what we’ve learned over the years.

Wishing you the home of your dreams,

Dave Silva
