SAN PEDRO, CA: Silva Construction, (https://www.silvaconstruction.com) a residential and commercial remodeling company serving the south bay area of Los Angeles, is answering more common questions on home remodeling.

With several parts to the remodeling process, Dave Silva of Silva Construction decided to answer more common questions that would help homeowners have a successful house remodel.

How long will my remodel take?

The length of time to complete remodeling depends on the type of remodeling you are doing. The remodeling timeline will vary depending on which room or rooms you’re remodeling, how big the space is, and the decision making between you and your remodeler. Ask your remodeling contractor to give you as accurate an estimate of the timeline as he can, and to keep you informed of any changes that will affect it.

Where should I start remodeling?

If you’re looking to remodel your entire home, you will be wondering where to start or if you should try to tackle it all at once. One factor would be whether you plan to live in the house during the remodeling, or go to a hotel. If you’re living in your home throughout the remodel, you may want to take the remodel room by room. Even then, however, living in the house during the renovation of certain rooms (such as the kitchen) can be difficult. If you don’t plan to live in the house throughout the remodel, you might want to do everything at once, which could help speed up the process.

Do I need a building permit to remodel my home?

Most likely yes. If you’re working with a licensed contractor they should take care of all building or remodeling permits you may need for your home remodel. But you should ask about this and ensure that they do get all the needed permits.

How to Choose the Right Remodeler?

The best advice is to do your research. Find out as much as you can about the contractor, even call some of his references. Check out their reviews online, although these days just about every company has some negative ones, so don’t let that scare you off. Find out the contractor’s process, timeline, and prices. But be careful choosing a contractor solely based on a low price, as you will probably end up with a contractor who is inexperienced, not licensed, or lacking other important qualifications.
