SAN PEDRO, CA: Silva Construction (https://silvaconstruction.com), a construction and remodeling company in the South Bay area of Southern California, recently took time to answer some common questions about kitchen remodeling. The California construction company has been in the construction and remodeling business for over 40 years and has much experience in this area.

David Clarke, co-owner of Silva Construction, offered answers to some of the most common questions the company gets on the subject of kitchen remodeling:

What do I need to know before jumping in?

Remodeling is a chance to create a new, vibrant kitchen. With the right design, your custom kitchen will not only meet all your needs, it will be a place you will enjoy using for years to come.

What’s a realistic budget?

This depends on many factors specific to your kitchen. It’s nearly impossible for a remodeling contractor to guess the price before working out a plan and a design with you. The size of your kitchen is one factor, but your budget will likely be most affected by structural changes like removing walls or replacing large appliances.

What is involved in a kitchen remodel?

You need to set a list of priorities and expectations. Set a budget. Choose a color palette or design style. Create a timeline. This is your chance to get creative, so take advantage of that. Your contractor can give you ideas. A design-build contractor is an advantage because they handle both the design and all logistics of implementing that design.

Kitchen remodeling usually involves replacing the sink, cabinets, appliances, surfaces (floor, counter and wall coverings in the room to give it an updated look. The project can vary from fairly simple updates like new tile or a new sink to a complex job that replaces virtually everything in the room.

How long will a kitchen remodeling job take?

Most residential kitchen remodel can be completed in 2 to 4 weeks, after all fixtures and appliances have arrived, and permits and work order approvals have been gotten from your local city building department. You will be given a time table in the beginning of the project after the consultation and estimate.

What do I need to do before a kitchen remodel?

You should choose the fixtures you want for your kitchen as much in advance as possible. If what you want is not immediately available, you may want to delay your job until they are available, or make alternate choices.

How much will my design/renovation budget be?

Each project is different and it’s impossible to give a specific budget answer without knowing exactly what kinds of changes the homeowner wants to do. Silva Construction will help you make the right choices to stay within your budget.  They give a complementary consultation.
